6 Blockchain Gurus You Should Already Be Following

Visionaries: Blockchain Agents of Change

Joe Hunt

As with most new technologies, there are hundreds of proselytizers on the internet expounding the virtues of blockchain. However, 90 percent of them either don’t know what they are talking about or just rehashing what is already available. These six people, however, are the real deal - these are the scions of the blockchain world. You can come to hear them speak at San Francisco Blockchain Week (October 5th, 2018 - October 12th, 2018) or follow them online and read their latest insights into this emerging technology. Click here for a chance to win two free tickets to the San Francisco Blockchain Week,  and come to see what the buzz is all about with these six scions of blockchain.

1. Naval Ravikant (@naval)

The CEO & co-founder of AngelList - the website that helps connect investors and job-seekers with startups - is one of the top sages of the blockchain age. Naval Ravikant has his pulse on the movement of blockchain technology and is one of the more eloquent speakers about its capability to transform humanity through the blockchain revolution. You should be following @naval to understand and see the big picture of how blockchain will revolutionize all areas of the global economy.

2. Charlie Lee (@satoshiLite)

People in the blockchain world trust Charlie Lee because he is an OG crypto guy. He is the founder of Litecoin - one of the top five cryptocurrencies currently trading - and has been involved in the crypto-blockchain world for nearly a decade now.  Charlie Lee started off mining bitcoins, and then quickly founded his own coin. Charlie is not someone who just joined the crypto world to make a quick buck. He is a true believer and has his skin in the game (literally) as he manages The Litecoin Foundation. Charlie is someone you want to follow for the latest updates in the crypto-blockchain world.

3. Vitalik Buterin (@vitalikbuterin)

Vitalik Buterin is one of those people that is on another level of intelligence from 99 percent of the rest of humanity. We had to listen to one of his interviews twice because he was talking at such a high level that it was almost incomprehensible - almost 😉. Vitalik is the co-founder of Ethereum, and the youngest of our six gurus in blockchain - he’s currently 24 years old. He is one of the world’s youngest millionaires - current estimates put his net worth at $100 million - so he is clearly doing something right. If you are a proponent of decentralized exchanges, then Vitalik is your guy.

4. Alessandro Chiesa (LinkedIn)

The co-founder of Zcash and StarkWare, Alessandro Chiesa, is storming the blockchain world and bringing fresh new concepts to it. He is the dojo of succinct "zero-knowledge proofs," which might be the holy grail of blockchain technologies. This basically means that all transactions on the blockchain will be verifiable to the user, without the user ever knowing any of the details. Alessandro is a professor at UC Berkeley as well and is helping to propel the academic debate about cryptocurrencies and blockchain. If you’re looking out for the next hot cryptocurrency, you should be following Alessandro, as many label Zcash to be the next (or even greater) bitcoin, due to its focus on secure transactions.

5. Nick Szabo (@NickSzabo4)

Nick Szabo is the creator of the “smart contracts” concept, having written the first paper on this topic back in 1996. Smart contracts are one of the biggest innovations to blockchain technology, and also the most promising. Some people believe that Nick Szabo is the notorious creator of Bitcoin (although he denies this allegation) because of how early he was involved in the crypto world, and how similar his writing style is to Satoshi’s white paper that started this all. Nick is one of the most reputable computer scientists around, and one of the more elegant writers on blockchain technology. To clearly understand the historical and cultural story of blockchain technology, you should be following Nick.

6. Tom Ding (@tom_ding)

There is always room for improvement, which is Tom Ding’s mantra. Tom is the CEO and co-founder of String Labs, a company that is currently engineering the next-generation of blockchain and smart contracts technology. Tom also writes a lot about blockchain in a very approachable way. He also has his pulse on the innovations in the blockchain world that are coming out of Asia and writes a lot about the latest improvements and news that affect the blockchain world.
